Orientation lab: Review of lab policies and safety guidelines. Microscope competency review. Demonstrate computer competencies. Innoculate agar plates for Bacteriology lab. |

Bacteriology: Study of permanent mount slides of representative bacteral cell morphologies, prepare and view bacterial smears prepared from cultures made the previous week. |

3. |
Algal Protistes: Conduct microscopic study of representatives of the single cell, colonial, and multicellular algae. Conduct experiment on sexual reproduction and alternation of generation in algae. |
|
4. |
Protozoa: Conduct microscopic study of representatives of the Sarcodines, Cilliates, and Mastigophores. Examine permanent mount slides of Plasmodium vivax and Trypanosoma gambiense. |
|
5. |
Fungi: Study and document the life cycles of molds, cup fungi, and mushrooms. Collect live specimens in the field. |
|
6. |
Nonvascular plants: Examine and document life cycles of mosses and liverworts using permanent slides and live material. Collect live specimens in the field. |

7. |
Lower tracheophytes: Examine and document life cycles of ferns and club mosses using permanent and live materials. Collect live specimens in the field. |

Seed plants: Examine slides of the reproductive structures of pine and document it life cycle. Collect live specimens of specific structures from pine life cycle. |

Flowering Plants: Examine slides of reproductive structures of the lily and document its life cycle. Study and document observations of vascular tissue cross sections. Collect specimens of flowering plants in the field. |

Poriferans and coelenterates: Observe and document observations of permanent mount slides of Grantia and Hydra. Observe predation of daphnia by live hydra. |

11. |
Flatworms: Study live Planaria and document feeding behavior. Study and document observations of the digestive system in permannent mount slides of stained Planaria. Observe and document observations of permanent mount slides of tapeworm and liver fluke. |

12. |
Pseudocoelomates: Study live rotifers and document observations of organ systems. Study and document observations of the organ systems found in permanent mount slides of hookworms. Conduct assay of siol nematodes and document results. |

Coelomates: Study and document observations of the organs systems of the earthworm in dissection of preserved specimens. |
